Christoph Lampert is a professor at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA), where he has headed the research group for Machine Learning and Computer Vision since 2010, with a research focus on Trustworthy Machine Learning (Fairness, Robustness, Privacy) as well as Transfer Learning (Multi-task Learning, Meta-Learning, Domain Adaptation). He also serves as director of ISTA's ELLIS Unit and as ISTA's representative on the board of directors for the FWF Cluster of Excellence "Bilateral Artificial Intelligence". Before joining ISTA, he received a PhD in mathematics from the University of Bonn and held postdoctoral positions at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence in Kaiserslautern and at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen. His research has won international and national awards, in particular best paper prizes at CVPR and ECCV, and the DAGM Main Prize. In 2012 he was awarded an ERC Starting Grant (Consolidator Phase) by the European Research Council. He is an action editor for the Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR) and previously served as editor for the International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV) and as associate editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI). From 2019 to 2025 he was a member of the ERC Starting Grant evaluation panel (PE6, computer science).
